-
- HOW DO I GET IT?
-
- It comes in a variety of forms. If you have Microsoft Windows
- or a Mac and a CD-ROM player, the CD is the best form since
- it has the multimedia presentation. If you have a CD but do
- not have one of the above systems, you can still browse the
- text and image files with your own native tools.
-
- Next best way to get it is over the wire. You can use the
- commercial internet to FTP it, or dial us with a high speed
- modem and download the parts you need. With a v.32 bis or
- PEP modem, you can download 2 megabytes of compressed material
- in as little as 25 minutes, costing around $3 under the off-peak
- Long-distance calling plans of major phone companies. That's
- similar to our shipping charge for the disks.
-
- For those with no high-speed modem, CD-ROM or Internet, we'll
- make it available on floppy disks, but the version available
- is far more limited. The novels are not available via floppy,
- along with much of the supplemental material.
-
- The basic one-disk version contains a compressed archive of
- the text of the Hugo and Nebula short fiction, limited
- writing samples of the other nominees and only as much
- low-resolution graphics as we can fit on a high-density disk.
-
- A three disk deluxe version contains more text, and more and
- higher resolution graphics, and the multimedia presentation. It
- is also compressed and must be unpacked onto your hard disk.
- For MS Windows and the MAC.
-
-
- WHAT FORMAT IS IT IN?
-
- On the CD, we'll have the files in a special format for the
- multimedia presentation, but also have the text files in
- Microsoft RTF format and the images in GIF format. We'll
- include the source and binaries to programs to translate RTF
- format into plain ASCII, enhanced ASCII and other formats.
- Those with many word processors can read this format already.
- (Enhanced ASCII is ASCII with overstrikes to provide underlining
- and bold face. It's easy to remove the overstrikes if they are
- a problem.)
-
- On the single-disk you'll find the RTF files and the translator
- and a simple browser for DOS.
-
- Translators are available on the net to map RTF to troff.
- Most Mac and PC word processors can map RTF to Adobe PostScript.
-
- Via the net or modem, it will exist in these formats, plus
- enhanced ASCII and other formats dictated by reader demand.
-
- The CD-ROM will be in ISO 9660 format with HFS extensions for the
- Mac.
-
- WHAT DOES IT COST?
-
- CD-ROM -- $29.95 -- also ask at your favourite bookseller or
- software store.
-
- Single Disk -- $11.95
-
- Multi-Disk -- $19.95
-
